A year ago, I didn't know I'd be a grassroots organizer today.
But thanks to the OFA fellowship program, here I am, so much better prepared to make a difference on the issues I care about.
As a fellow this spring, I picked up skills and tools that are critical to organizing -- everything from hosting events to running phone banks, holding press conferences, and empowering others to step up and volunteer.
This is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to dig into progressive issues this summer. If you know someone who sounds like a good fit, encourage them to apply here by the deadline on Sunday, June 15th -- or even fill out an application yourself.
Through my work with OFA, I've been able to get involved in two of the fights that really matter to me: the Stand with Women campaign and immigration reform.
What's been especially meaningful to me is the ability to meet people where they are -- I'm bilingual, so when I go out and knock on doors and talk to folks about the work we're doing, I know how important it is to do it in the language they're most comfortable with. And because these issues directly affect my community -- mis amigos y mis vecinos -- I've picked up invaluable skills in moving folks to take action.
Pretty cool, right?
The fellows program runs through July and August, and it's competitive -- so make sure anyone you know who's interested gets their application in soon. Every person who is interested should apply, and multicultural and bilingual folks who are excited to put their skills to use in communities across the country are especially encouraged to get involved. President Obama Happy Father's Day!

Hi, everyone --
Today, I'm thinking about all the dads across the country, spending time with family and loved ones -- and especially those fathers serving our country overseas, who can't be home with their kids today.But I'm also thinking about all the young people out there who don't have a dad in their lives at all -- or who don't always enjoy the opportunities and support that come with having strong role models.
It reminds me why we started the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative in the first place: because we need to do more to help young people go as far as their dreams and hard work will take them, no matter what they look like or where they grow up.
I know I'm only here because people took a chance on me, and believed in me when I didn't always believe in myself. And I want to give more kids that chance. It's an all-hands-on-deck effort, from the folks on my staff -- to you.
You can invest in our young people, and help them be successful. You can commit to doing it right now.
Make a pledge to mentor a young person in your community here.
For me, this is personal.
And for millions of young Americans around the country, it just might be life-changing.

This past Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed national limits on carbon pollution from existing power plants for the first time.
Since then, folks across the country -- on editorial boards, in classrooms, on front porches -- have been weighing in on why this is so important. And with that in mind, here's something I want to make clear:
We’re already experiencing the effects of climate change today -- but don't just think about this proposed rule in terms of the country we're living in right now. Think about the one we and our children are going to be living in by 2030.
Thanks to these limits, that country will have a 30 percent reduction in carbon pollution from the power sector. It will also have 25 percent less smog and soot, meaning children will have an estimated 150,000 fewer asthma attacks each year -- and they'll miss an estimated 180,000 fewer days of school. Americans across the board will have up to 3,300 fewer heart attacks a year.
And now that the rule has been proposed, you can participate in the process.
Right now, we're accepting comments from the public about the proposed power plant rule.
