 Today, Barack, the girls, and I traveled to Selma, Alabama.
 
There, 50 years ago this month, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Congressman John Lewis, and so many other unsung heroes crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge -- standing up for voting rights and full equality under the law for all Americans.
 
It was an honor and a privilege to stand on that bridge and commemorate the heroes from a half century ago. But the legacy of Selma is not simply about our history -- it's about the march that continues today.
 
So I hope you'll take a moment to hear what Barack had to say today in Selma.

To mark the fourth anniversary of the launch of Let's Move!, I asked you to show me how you move!
 
I wanted to see all of the fun, creative things you're doing in your homes, schools, and communities to get kids excited about eating healthy and being active.
 
And I said that if we got enough responses, we'd have a little surprise -- the President, and maybe the Vice President, would show everyone how they move.
 
Well, let's just say you stepped up in a big way -- which means it's time to hold up my end of the bargain.
 
Here it is. Take a look at how the President and the Vice President move:

 

I'm so proud of Barack and Joe. But more importantly, I'm so proud of all of you.

An adorable "focus group"

Let's Move! -- First Lady Michelle Obama's initiative to end childhood obesity within a generation -- just turned 4.

We're celebrating all week, and we want you to join us.

The First Lady wants you to share how you're moving by using the hashtag #LetsMove on social media to share a photo of your favorite activity or healthy snack. If enough people get involved, President Obama and Vice President Biden will share how they get moving, too.

To kick off this anniversary week, First Lady Michelle Obama and comedian Will Ferrell held a "focus group" with young kids to talk about how they eat healthy and get active.
Frankly, it was adorable. And there's more great stuff coming all this week.

Michelle Obama to me  Donna -- Barack and I have always been very grateful for the people in our lives. You have stood by us through it all, and as Barack gets ready to give the State of the Union address, I'm asking you to do it again. One year ago, all of our hard work and sacrifice paid off, and we made sure Barack got a second term as president to finish the work all of us started together.

I didn't just support him because he's my husband -- I supported him because I believe in his vision to lead this country forward and create a better future for our two girls.

Everyone who stood with Barack had their own reasons for doing so, whether it was to rebuild an economy that works for the middle class, to follow through on the promise of affordable health care, or to improve access to higher education. We all had something that drove us, and we came together to get the job done.

But just as none of us could elect Barack on our own, he can't finish the job by himself. He needs leaders in Congress and in state capitals around the nation to help him continue moving our country forward.

So today, a year after Barack was elected to his second term, I'm renewing my commitment to support a group of leaders who share Barack's values. I hope you will join me in putting your support behind Democrats in the year to come:

I'm Jon Carson, the new executive director of Organizing for Action.

I hope you're as excited as I am for this new organization, and for what our grassroots movement can accomplish in the next four years. 

If you haven't already, you should check out this short video First Lady Michelle Obama recorded about our organization, and then say you're on board.

Just a little bit about me. I'm a Wisconsin guy, and I grew up on a farm in the western part of the state. In 2007, I joined Barack Obama's campaign and served as the national field director. After the election, I went to work for the President in the White House, most recently in the Office of Public Engagement.

That brings me to now, when very soon, my family and I will be moving back to Chicago as I start this new role with all of you.

I first joined the President's campaign because I was inspired by his belief that ordinary people have the power to change our country if we work together to get it done -- and that belief will be at the core of this new organization as it unfolds.

And the way we'll get it done can be summed up in one word: local.

That means each city or region will have its own OFA chapter, and you'll decide the issues your community cares about most, the work you want to do to make progress on them, and the kind of support you'll need to get it done.

At a neighborhood and regional level, OFA members will grow their local chapters, bringing in new leaders and helping train a new generation of volunteers and organizers to help fight for the issues at stake.

There'll be times when we pull together at the national level to get President Obama's back on passing major legislation, like reducing gun violence or immigration reform. And we'll all work to help transform Washington from the outside while strengthening our economy and creating jobs.

But for the most part, the direction our work takes will be completely in your hands -- with the support of this organization behind you every step of the way.

In the next few weeks and months, I'll be asking for your input on putting together an OFA plan for 2013, we'll be holding online briefings about the issues we want to tackle, and we'll start organizing on those issues as they're debated in D.C.

But for right now, I just want to say thanks and welcome. There's a lot to be done, without a doubt -- and I couldn't be more thrilled to be part of OFA with you.

My name is Will. I'm a University of Iowa student and a volunteer with President Obama's campaign -- and I have a confession.

You may have heard about the fact that we're getting outspent, which is causing a lot of my fellow Obama supporters to lose sleep -- but not me.

That's because of you.

To be clear, as a grassroots organizer, I'm not getting tons of R&R. It's just that, after I pitch in my 30 bucks, what keeps me up at night is whether one of the new volunteers I trained might be ready to step up into a leadership role, or how I can talk someone I met today into coming by tomorrow to make more calls.

That's how ordinary people like me spend every day making sure we're going to win in November: Reach out to new people. Find out why they support the President. Train them until we organize ourselves out of a job. Then start over.
