That's something I never get tired of saying.

But think about this: 5.7 million more could have access to affordable coverage today, if it weren't for 24 states playing political games.

One of the ways the Affordable Care Act provides better access to health care is by expanding Medicaid for millions of Americans. These two dozen states refused to do it, even though it means helping their own people -- all because they don't like Obamacare. This is something that really shouldn't be controversial. It fills an existing gap in access to affordable coverage available to working families.

We've been talking a lot about health care recently. For good
reason: The deadline is in just seven days.

After open enrollment ends on March 31, you won't be able to get insurance through the marketplace until 2015.

If you know someone who still hasn't signed up for health care, tell them to go to HealthCare.gov right now and sign up. This is their last chance.

Now is the time for people to get covered.
I know life is busy -- and after all the troubles with the website early on, some folks have been hesitant to give it a second chance. But the website is working great now: We've signed up more than 5 million Americans already, and more are signing up every day.

I've tasked my team with doing everything they can to get us over the finish line.
But here's what we know: People like you having conversations with your friends and family will make all the difference.

That's why I need your help -- pass this message on to one person who still needs to sign up for coverage. Tell them to go to HealthCare.gov right now and check out the options for themselves.

The deadline is in seven days. Our health is way too important to ignore -- nobody can afford to just cross their fingers and hope for the best.

Today, young people can stay on their parents' health care while they pursue their dreams, 129 million Americans with pre-existing conditions are newly protected against discrimination, lifetime caps on coverage are a thing of the past; and the rate of uninsured Americans has steadily dropped.

More than just a website

On October 1st, even as the federal government was shutting down, HealthCare.gov -- the new Health Insurance Marketplace where people can find and apply for affordable health insurance plans as part of Obamacare -- opened for business nationwide.

As you may have heard, the website launch hasn’t gone nearly as smoothly as it should have. And with nearly 20 million visits to the site in the first several weeks, the problems were aggravated by the website's popularity.

But even in spite of those problems, thousands of Americans are currently signing up and saving money. Nearly half a million Americans have already applied for health insurance through the federal and state Marketplaces. It's not hard to see why: Once people get through the door, they overwhelmingly like the benefits and cost of the products available to them -- especially when compared with the discriminatory private market that was previously the only game in town.

Some of the best and brightest are now doing everything they can to fix the site as quickly as possible. People are working overtime, 24/7, and we've brought in some of the best IT experts from across the country to join the team at the federal agency responsible for running the Marketplace.

And as President Obama said today, "Nobody's madder than me about the fact that the website isn't working as well as it should, which means it's going to get fixed."

It's also important to remember that the website is not the only way to enroll. You can dial the call center at 1-800-318-2596 and apply directly over the phone. Typically, it takes about 25 minutes for an individual or about 45 for a family. You can also find local "navigators" who can help you enroll in person at LocalHelp.HealthCare.gov.

The President is the first to admit that the website's problems are unacceptable. But Obamacare is more than just a website. Most Americans already have health insurance through their employer, Medicare, or Medicaid, and they don't need to go to the Marketplace for new coverage. Instead, the health care law provides new benefits and increased protection: Young people can stay on their parents' insurance plans until they are 26, seniors are receiving more affordable prescription medicine, and preventive care like mammograms are free.

So while there are major improvements to make on the new website, millions of Americans are already benefiting from the health care law. And we're making sure that those who don't have access to affordable health insurance today can sign up -- online, on the phone, and even in person.

Here are some of the things we've done in the meantime to make the process easier. Take a look, and pass this message along to those you know who are trying to sign up for health care:

• You can now preview plans and prices available in your area without filling out the online application.
• You can find out, with an improved calculator, whether your income and household size may qualify you for lower costs on your monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs.
• You can apply for coverage 4 ways: by phone, online, by mail with a paper application, or with the help of an in-person assister.

Day Three Into A Shutdown Of The Federal Government

We’re now three days into a shutdown of the federal government. Real Americans are being hurt, and our economy is paying the price. Reports have come out detailing how hundreds of thousands of people don’t know when their next paycheck will come. Millions of Americans, including veterans and seniors, are at risk of losing the benefits they’ve paid for, earned, and rely on.

For all that, we’re exactly where we were Monday night: If Speaker Boehner dropped his demands to sabotage Obamacare and instead put a routine budget funding the government to a simple yes-or-no vote, it would pass -- just as it did in the Senate. In fact, since the shutdown began, enough House Republicans now publicly say they’ll support a bill like this that we know it would get a bipartisan majority.

We don’t need to wait another day: it’s time for the House to just vote -- without further delay.

We’re asking everyone to let us know how the government shutdown is affecting them. Will you take a moment now to make your voice heard?

As the President said earlier this morning, this shutdown is a crisis manufactured by a small faction of one party in one chamber of one branch of our government. Republicans have tried and failed more than 40 times to prevent Obamacare from coming online, but they won’t even schedule one vote to reopen the government they were elected to run.

Keeping the government open isn’t a compromise, it’s their job.

The President is willing, if not eager, to negotiate over how to enact policies that will strengthen the middle class, further cut the deficit, and even improve the Affordable Care Act. But he’s been clear that he won’t negotiate when Republicans are playing political games that hurt our economy.
Speaker Boehner could end this shutdown today -- he just needs to put the interests of the American people before a failed partisan agenda.

If the United States government shuts down tonight and our economy takes a hit, it will be because House Republicans let it happen.
 
Right now, there's a bill sitting in the House that funds the government for a few more weeks. It doesn't demand the repeal or delay of the health care law, or deny women access to birth control, or include any other failed, partisan proposals. It funds the government. That's it. And if Republican leadership allowed a simple yes or no vote on this bill -- like the Senate has -- it would get enough support from members of both parties to pass.
 
Instead, the government that these Republicans were elected to fund will close down and that will hurt our economy. Americans across the country won't be allowed to show up for work. Paychecks could be delayed, meaning some folks will have to cut back on groceries or maybe even not pay a few bills. Businesses will have fewer customers. Veterans won't get services they rely on -- and it will put benefits for seniors at risk.
 
Even though they've already voted over 40 times to defund or delay the health care law, this group of Republicans in Congress is so obsessed with the idea of sabotaging Obamacare that they're willing to take the economy hostage to do it.
 
Take a look at how this shutdown will affect millions of Americans -- and then make sure you share it so other folks know, too.
 
President Obama has said time and time again that he's willing to work with folks on both sides of the aisle to grow our economy and even improve the health care law. But using the threat of government shutdown or defaulting on the bills our country owes is reckless and irresponsible.
 
In fact, shutting down the government won't stop Obamacare. The Health Insurance Marketplace will still open for business starting tomorrow, without delay.
 
Washington needs to stop manufacturing crises and focus on the issues that matter: creating jobs and building a strong middle class. Taking our economy over the cliff just to score political points isn't fair to the millions of Americans who show up every day to work and do their jobs. It’s time for Congress to do its job.
