The FCC just voted in favor of a strong net neutrality rule to keep the Internet open and free.

That happened, in part, because millions of Americans across the country didn't just care about this issue: You stood up and made your voices heard, whether by adding your names to petitions, submitting public comments, or talking with the people you know about why this matters.

Hey --

I wanted to take a minute to fill you in on the current debate going on in Congress.

Just two months on the job, the new Congress has taken us to the brink of another shutdown fight -- except this time, it's over funding the Department of Homeland Security. Yes, really.

Congressional leaders are threatening a partial government shutdown this upcoming Friday, all because they don't like President Obama's common-sense immigration actions.

We've been here before, and we know the only way this nonsense stops is if enough people make their voices heard. Tell congressional leaders right now that you won't stand for another shutdown.

Keep in mind the fact that Speaker Boehner had a chance to help find a comprehensive solution on immigration -- he let a bipartisan Senate bill sit on his desk, untouched and not voted on, for over 500 days last session.

That's why the President had no choice but to take common-sense actions to help fix our broken system. Too many families were depending on reform.

I don't know about you, but if John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have a problem with that, nothing's stopping them from passing their own legislation.

Threats of a partial government shutdown -- over the Department of Homeland Security -- should never be a political tool or some bizarre bargaining chip.

If you're sick of these partisan, political games, you really need to join the OFA supporters standing up to say "Enough already."

The President's science advisor is at your fingertips:

Have a question about our changing climate? You've got the President's science advisor at your fingertips.

Since November, Dr. John Holdren has been encouraging the public to ask him anything about climate change on social media using the hashtag #AskDrH. You've been asking -- and he's been answering.

Most recently, students asked what the U.S. is doing to prepare for future storms, and how we can cut carbon dioxide emissions without hurting our economy -- among other critical questions.

You should watch his responses. Listen to what Dr. Holdren had to say, and make sure to pass these responses on.

 "No challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change."

That's what the President said in his State of the Union address last month.

The fact is that there's a lot of misinformation out there about our climate, and it's on all of us to do our part to set the record straight and make sure people are as informed and knowledgeable about the very real effects of climate change as possible.
